Douglas Park & Castle Hill Walk
From the Pier, head south
along the promenade passing Mackerston Putting Green, and continue until you
come to May Street (The Moorings Hotel is on the corner). Walk up May Street,
go through Anderson Memorial Park (childrens play area and gardens) and cross
the main road into Douglas Park.
Head up the single track road and you will come to a small gate. You can turn
right here and head along to the Neolithic Tomb, before going up the hill.
By going through the gate you can begin your climb. After the steps there
is directions indicating where you should walk to in a southerly direction.
Once at the view point head northwest to Castle Hill. This is a rocky area
where you can see the remains of the Iron Age Hill fort along with beautiful
views of the area. If you continue on this route you will rejoin the path
to the Pier.
Parts of this climb are strenuous, so you may wish to take your car to the Haylie Car Park which is loacated at the top of the Haylie Brae road.
